For the first time ever, the entire public statuary landscape in Denmark is being mapped. This mapping is the first step toward gaining a complete overview of all public art in Denmark. Art in public space occupies a special position in our society, because it is not just something we look at, but something we move among—in urban spaces and landscapes, often without having deliberately sought it out. Art in public space functions as a shared memory: it tells us who we have been, while also showing that we are capable of renewal. And it enables public conversation.

Join us as we invite you to an afternoon dedicated to public art. We ask: What does the landscape look like today, where are we heading, and what potential lies in our shared works? Can art create a sense of belonging and community in Denmark—and what about in Europe?

Cultural journalist Søren Korsholm will guide us through the afternoon, where we will, among others, meet Malene Natascha Ratcliff, Director of MAPS Museum, Charlotte Sahl-Madsen, Director of United Co-Creation Lab and Politikens debate editor Christian Idskov, in conversation with cultural journalist Johanne Lerhard about the potentials of public art.

Also meet Politiken’s cultural journalist Camilla Stockmann in conversation with three of today’s visionary visual artists—Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Camilla Berner, and Sophia Kalkau—who will talk about their own works and their dreams for art in public space. Where can their favorite works be found, what do they feel is missing from the landscape, and what are their visions?

You can also experience the Danish visual artist Rasmus Myrup.
