Season Opening
The Story of Public Art
09.10.2025 16:30 – 19:00
Nørregade 26, 4600 Køge

Thursday, October 9th from 4:30–7:00 PM, we’re kicking off the season at MAPS – the Museum of Art in Public Spaces – with the opening of the final chapter of The Story of Public Art, along with a sneak peek of exciting news and upcoming exhibitions. An afternoon of art, music, wine, and great company in the heart of Køge.
The exhibition The Story of Public Art is now completed with even more stories. This time, we’re focusing on Land Art – a genre that has played a crucial role in the development of public art worldwide. The exhibition features works ranging from the experimental pieces of the 1960s in remote landscapes to today’s climate-critical explorations, showcasing art that has left a lasting mark and inspired generations. At MAPS, you can experience a four-meter-high wheat straw, a cornfield on Manhattan, and the Thy Camp like you’ve never seen it before.
We’ll also be unveiling what’s coming in the new season: upcoming exhibitions, new traditions, and events we’re excited to share with you.
At 4:00 PM, before the official opening, you’re invited to a special preview when students from Sct. Nicolai School and Køge Gymnasium present artworks created during their classes specifically for the museum.
The rest of the afternoon will feature speeches, music, snacks, and – of course – chilled, sparkling wine. Along the way, you’re welcome to explore the exhibition The Story of Public Art.
Admission is free for everyone – and don’t forget: Annual passes can be purchased at half price on the day.
