Cooking Sections:
the House that Pigs built

MAPS presents the House that Pigs built by Cooking Sections, the result of more than three years of collaboration between the artist duo and the museum. The project expands the notion of public space to include the land itself – the shared ground that nourishes societies and sustains cultures of care.

In Denmark, pigs outnumber people by more than five to one. Industrial agriculture shapes the landscape and creates complex entanglements between food production, biotechnology, and architecture. The pig’s body becomes not only food but also medicine and building material – from hormone production to smooth surfaces and architectural finishes. In this way, pigs shape both our bodies, our homes, and our senses.

Developed in collaboration with historian Hannah Landecker, the exhibition unfolds as a sensory sound work in which voices recount how pigs are transformed into materials, and how buildings, in turn, reshape animal bodies. Visitors are invited to trace the pathways of industrial farming through landscapes, homes, and human bodies – and to reflect on how we might imagine more caring futures.
