MAPS Movie Mingle: Hayao Miyazaki
Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
11.09.2026 18:00 – 20:00
MAPS Movie Mingle is a vibrant film experience where we explore visual culture through everything from art films and video art to documentaries and more commercial works. The programme brings together films across genres and formats, creating an informal space where you can experience both classics and new perspectives. Enjoy a glass of wine, have some popcorn, and watch a great film, introduced by one of our hosts, who will provide an introduction to the evening’s screening.
Immerse yourself in Hayao Miyazaki’s magical universe when, on Friday, 11 September, MAPS presents a work by the legendary Japanese filmmaker for the first time.
Internationally acclaimed as a master storyteller and creator of Japanese animated feature films, Miyazaki is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most accomplished filmmakers in the history of animation.
MAPS Movie Mingle will feature more films by Miyazaki throughout the rest of the year – so stay tuned here for more.
We begin with Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) — a beautifully imagined fantasy in which Sophie, a young hat-maker, is cursed by a witch and transformed into an old woman. Through magic, romance, and adventure, the film explores love, personal loyalty, and the devastating effects of war.
Price: Free. We are featuring the movie during our Season Opening, which is free for all to attend.
