Join us for the Season Opening at MAPS

From the infinite darkness of the universe to art in the midst of everyday life. On Friday 11 September, MAPS opens a new season with two new exhibitions, a presentation of the year ahead, a student exhibition, a concert, film, and food.

A new season begins at MAPS, and we are celebrating both at the museum and out in the city.

Director Malene Natascha Ratcliffe will present MAPS’ upcoming programme and the artists, projects, and initiatives that will bring art closer to people in Køge and across Denmark over the coming year.

At the same time, we open two new exhibitions, each exploring in its own way how art comes into being, moves, and becomes part of our shared spaces.

On the square in front of Køge Station, we present Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm’s A Black Hole Calling Us, a large-scale interactive installation that invites you on a journey toward—and into—a black hole.

At the museum, we open Preliminary Works for Tove Storch’s The Ship, where MAPS takes a closer look at the process behind Tove Storch’s seventeen-metre-long red concrete sculpture The Ship. Models, drawings, and sketches offer insight into the artist’s working process and reveal how experiments with plaster, concrete, fabric, and gravity gradually shaped the final work.

As tradition has it, we begin the day by making space for the next generation with the opening of a student exhibition featuring works created through MAPS’ learning programmes.

Taking inspiration from the practice of Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, the students have worked with colour, costumes, dance, performance, drawing, and collage, exploring what happens when art is not simply something you look at, but something you step into yourself.
